Our Story

Built On Legacy

We Are Nu Alpha Kappa

A Brotherhood Like No Other

Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, Inc. is a Latino based fraternity built on carnalismo, the pursuit of knowledge, and pride in our culture. Our mission: to unite and involve all students in a more harmonious and brotherly atmosphere through academic, social, and cultural means.

The name comes from Xinaco, a Nahuatl term for an educated, amiable individual whose personality and charisma transcends and enlightens all cultures and social classes. That is the standard every brother carries.

Men of Mind. Men of Culture. Men of Pride.

The Founding of Nu Alpha Kappa

Nu Alpha Kappa was founded at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo by eleven founding fathers determined to build a fraternity where culture, family, and education came first. From that founding class, NAK has grown into 28 chapters across California, Nevada, and Colorado.

Our Founding Fathers: Antonio Arreola, Marin Arreola, Nicolas Arreola, Ernesto Garcia, Moises Herrera, Jesse Martinez, Hector Mendoza, Joel Romero, Alberto Salazar, Antonio Valenzuela, and Ramiro Ramos.

The Omicron Chapter

Our Chapter History

Chartered on April 17, 2004, the Omicron Chapter brought Nu Alpha Kappa to the University of Nevada, Reno as the first non-exclusive Latino fraternity on campus, expanding the brotherhood into the Silver State.

Today we stand as a proud member of UNR's Multicultural Greek Council. Many of our brothers are first generation college students, and traditions like the Machete dance keep our roots on full display. From our founding fathers to today's active class, every brother has added to the story.
